This morning he wakes up before anyone else does. I wonder...did he remember it was his birthday? Was he excited? I rolled out of bed and said, "Happy Birthday, Hayden!" He smiled an enormous smile. He then tells me that the cheese fountain we had at his party was too spicy for him and that for THIS party he wanted a chocolate fountain! (THIS party? I had to get the kid on the same page as the rest of us and let him know that this party we were having for him today was going to be small and just family.) As we were finishing up in the bathroom he asks me, "Where's daddy?" I tell him he's at work. He says, "But's it's my birthday." I feel crushed. I ask him if he wanted to call his daddy at work. (I felt he needed to feel a little crushed as well.) He gets on the phone with him and says, "It's my birthday!" They talk a few more minutes and then I get on the phone and tell him why we called so early. Success. He felt crushed and promised he'd come home early.
The rest of Hayden's day was spent doing 'Hayden' stuff. He talked to a lot of people on the phone. Watched Land Before Time, a movie Joshua bought him for his birthday. (I let him open one present this afternoon. It made his day!) And played with his dinosaurs, trains and cars!
That evening, for his 'party', we celebrated with another pinata (I had to get him one, since I couldn't deliver a chocolate fountain.), balloons and a big sugary cake! He loved every minute of it!
