This week’s Spin Cycle, which is hosted by the ever so talented, ever so lovely and ever so awesomesauce blogger, (Hay – I think I’m going to create and start my own badge-award entitle, the Awesomesauce blogger award! Who wants one?) Sprite’s Keeper, is all about voting and elections. And since the last time I blogged this, I wasn’t part of the cool blogger world. So, I think its okay for me to make it my spin cycle for the week. (Jen – feel free to not include me if I have broken some sort of Spin Cycle rule.)

Political Upheaval
Let me make something VERY clear before I continue; G and I have not made any decisions about which side of the ‘political fence’ we’re on. We are still trying to gather as much information as we can. With that said, here’s my story…..
This morning I was getting breakfast ready, and in the kitchen with me was H. He was playing and doing his thing and I was getting busy with the food. He was playing by our message board (It’s a white metal board that we can write on (dry erase style) or hang notes on via a magnet.)
...when out of nowhere I hear him say; “McCain. McCain.” He was looking at a picture of John McCain that was on our board. I looked at him in disbelief and said, “Yes Hayden, that’s John McCain.” Then, I immediately called my husband and asked him if he taught H who John McCain was. He said he did not and I said I didn’t either. So, now you’re probably wondering two things; 1. How does H know who McCain is? And 2. WHY do we have a picture of him on our message board? I’ll talk about the picture first. I frequent a blog through a magazine called Get Born. And they posted a question in regards to our youth and politics. They were wondering; “Have the younger generations figured out a quick way to politics?” They asked their readers to pose these 3 questions to anyone they want, young or old, and report back to them.
1. What is the presidential election?
2. Who are you voting for and why?
3. What is the president’s job?
I asked J my 3 ½ year old.
1. Do you know what the presidential election is? “Nope.”
2. Okay, now I’m going to show you two pictures…
….These men are running for President of the United States. Which one would you vote for? “That one.” (Pointing to John McCain) Why? “Because, I want him to be President.”
3. Do you know the President’s job? “No.”
I went back to typing my answers and J went back to his work. Then he says to me; “Mom, let me see those men again.” Thinking he was going to change his answers. “So, do you want to change your answer?” “No. I just want to see them again.” “Do you think you can keep his picture (McCain) up on the computer?” “Um, No Joshua. Do you want me to print it out for you?” “Yes. Then, I’m going to cut it out.” So, I did and he did. That’s how it ended up on our message board.
Then, G comes home and H is up from his nap. I told G all about my little experiment and apparently, ‘silent but deadly’ (Hayden) was listening to our conversation and taking it all in. That kid has always been an observer. He takes it all in, before he reacts to anything.
So, now you know.
I'm so glad the state of this country doesn't lie in the hands of 3 year old's. Although, I'm pretty sure it would be okay with most of us if their decisions to take naps and eat cookies were part of our health plan.
Vote wisely!
P.S. What do you think of my award? Want one??? Keep your comments coming!
